How does a Hicks Waterstove
heat your home?

The Hicks Waterstove is designed to save the most energy and
provide the most comfortable heating available. It heats your home
by heating a steel tank filled with water, which surrounds the
firebox. This hot water is then circulated through underground hot
water pipes to a water coil inside your existing central duct system.
The blower on your central unit is turned on by the thermostat control
and forces the air across the hot coil sending hot air through
your central duct system.
The Hicks Waterstove can also be connected to any existing
baseboard heating system.
The only visible addition to the heating system inside your home
is the thermostat which is located near the existing thermostat.
A thermostat is installed so that if the outside water stove is not
in operation, your existing unit will automatically take over to maintain
your household temperature.
The wall thermostat, which regulates the heat from the water
stove, performs two functions; when it senses your need for heat
according to your temperature setting, it turns the water pump on
to circulate the hot water through the coil and also turns the blower
on inside your central unit to force air across the hot water coil.
This forces hot air into your central duct system.
Your use requirements will determine the water temperature
you’ll want to maintain, usually between 160 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
You don’t ever need to boil the water inside the holding tank in order
to get maximum heat benefits. But if by accident you burn a fire too hot
in the firebox and the water boils (212 degrees Fahrenheit), an open vent
lets the water evaporate slowly. . . safely...

How does the Hicks WaterStove heat water for
your household use?

A cold water supply line goes to the outside water stove. The pressure on the supply water lines forces water through the domestic hot water coil when you open a hot water faucet inside your home.
As this water passes through the domestic hot water coil, it picks up the heat from the hot water which surrounds it. It is then carried back to your water heater by the pressure in the lines and stored there as you use hot water.
